We have developed a motion control interface that provides encoder feedback signals from the scanning stepper motors for faster scanning with more accuracy and repeatability. All Applicable Electronics CMC-4 systems can be upgraded to provide these new enhancements.

The new Motion Control Interface includes the following:

  • Motion Control Interface unit (MCI-1) w/cables

  • NI PCI-7334 motion control card for PC

  • ASET – XP version to utilize new motion control hardware.

  • Encoders (one per stepper motor in system).

ASET – XP will drive two separate four axis motion control systems with the addition of an additional NI PCI-7334 motion control card and 3D stepper motor manipulator. One system can be open loop (no encoders) while the other is closed loop with encoder feedback. Two motion control systems can be utilized for alternating scans of different techniques or electrodes or one system can control the positioning of the sample under scan while the other controls the microelectrode scanning.

ASET - XP utilizes PCI version of A/D board, Motion Control board and framegrabber. The NI PCI-1411 Framegrabber is recommended. The COMPUTEREYES/PCI framegrabber and CIO-DAS1602/16 A/D board will also work with the new version of ASET-XP. The PCI-7334 Motion Control card provides for encoder feedback and independent hardware control to speed scan rates and increase accuracy and repeatability.

Note: Older systems can be upgraded by replacing stepper motors with new stepper motors that have encoders attached. You can also run your older 3D motorized micromanipulator in open loop configuration with the new ASET-XP software and NI PCI-7334 motion control card and Motion Control Interface unit (MCI-1).
